Grand Opening: toyconstruct.blogspot.com

Hey Fellow Hobbyists!

Hope the wait didn't prove to be too long, for we have finally set up the new blog, after going through a fair amount of planning...such as the banner design, blog layout, categories of hobbies etc. It's titled toyconstruct to include both models that require construction, and ready-made models that we have collected for all this time.

JQ and I have put a couple of posts about how each of us got started on the modeling/collecting hobby since childhood, and a common thread appears that it all starts with: Dad.

And from now on, JQ and I will be putting in about a couple of posts per week...and we have also taken a new batch of modern military, warhammer fantasy and Japan-fan stuff too.

So without further ado, allow us to gladly present the new integrated blog!

See you guys there :)

United Bowmen

Hello fellow Fantasy Fans!

Here's wishing all of you a HAPPY NEW YEAR and many happy returns as we enter into a new decade.

Today we have JQ's Bret bowman next the WT's HE archer, holding their bows taut against the impending charge of their foes, for Man and High Elf have forged a resolute alliance against forces who threaten the Old World.

It is interesting to note that Bretonnia is characterized by honor tarnished by real world darkness. Different editions of the army book had different perspectives on the divide between commoners and the nobility.

The 3rd Edition described an extremely bleak existence of serfs in contrast of the extravagance and corruption of their rulers. Meanwhile, the 4th/5th moved away from the darkness, with the 5th picturing the nobility showing a great deal of honor and care for the plight of their subjects. The 6th and 7th editions introduced a more balanced outlook to the kingdom, with dutiful knights and the abject poverty of the commoners, much due to the impossibility of social progression for peasants (even if they served in the army, as a 90% tax is typically enforced upon them).

Also, there are suggestions within the 6th edition that the state religion of Bretonnia may have been a manipulation of the Wood Elves, descendants of High Elven colonists who first lived in pre-Bretonnia. It is hinted that the elves see the kingdom as a buffer force against any threat to their interests, but there are no such rules that prevent Bretonnian forces from attacking the elves. On the other hand, the Bretonnians still view the High Elves with honor and respect, knowing that the elves themselves stand for good, but possess fearsome military prowess.

Well, it is time for me to hand over the postings to JQ, and again, thanks for coming down to this blog with our shared interest in WFB! Take care, and gooooo Warhammer!

Warriors of Khorne

Hey Everyone!

Hope you all had a good time over the Christmas weekend catching up with family and friends...of course it may seem to be a 'Hallmark' holiday for some, and for others (like me), it holds special significance in Jesus.

Taking a slight detour from our HE flavored posts, this time we are featuring JQ's Khorne warriors.

I remember the first time I read the Chaos army book, it left me very impressed with the art (like the pencil sketches spread across the book) and the writing (the chilling side stories) that fed into the general feel achieved in the book...a bleak and ashen aura that blanketed the northern wastes, the home and bastion of Chaos...an evil yet alluring entity, or even: a force we do not fully understand at all?

Of course the only thing that spoiled the overall Chaos theme for me were the old Chaos warriors, they didn't look like those in the illustrations at all, they were rather scrawny and not intimidating (in contrast of their awesome stats) and they really needed a new line to replace them. Well, the new Chaos warriors really look good to me, much alike the Chaos knights (one of the coolest figures around I think).

Interestingly, someone was inspired by Warhammer Online to make cosplay Khorne adept armor, and it was featured on the deviantart website.

Nothing much is revealed about the armor, other than it's a female set of leather armor.

The Elven Stand

Hey Everyone

I was away for some travel, and just had some time to put some posts up, so this post is a little late.

This time, we have WT's High Elf commander, majestic and inspiring as he faces the Chaos horde with guile and alone.

The High Elves are ancient foes of Chaos, and the 2 have a shared history of hatred that stretches back into the dawn of time of the Old World. This pic turned out pretty nice, as it spells out the tension the lone High Elf feels against a horde of Chaos warriors, not your regular Joe-schmoes of the Warhammer world. Insurmountable odds? Is the noble elf hero doomed to defeat at the blades of Khorne? Dice rolls will only tell.

The majestic High Elves also have a pretty loyal fan-base, and if you're interested, there's a fan-fiction website devoted the the High Elves of Warhammer:

Amidst the Sunset

Hey Everyone!

Thanks to JQ for filling in for the blog for the past 4 weeks, and for all of you too for coming down and reading this blog dedicated to warhammer!

Well, we're continuing with the HE, and this time featuring WT's HE hero striking a dramatic pose with spear and shield at hand. (not to do any disservice to WT's painting or HE in general...realistically speaking, one needs to have head muscles of an ogre to be able to fight while wearing that huge ceremonial helm haha)

The story of the High Elves is filled with much tragedy and valor, for they have experienced great rifts outside (War of the Beard) and inside (Dark Elf split), and now face an old enemy from the past: Chaos. One of the most striking/dramatic stories for me was how the Druchii split from the High Elves, over the matter about succession of the Phoenix Throne...and as high and lofty the elves maybe, the harder they fall as they are inflexible to change their ways. Pathos and pride have been major threads in the history of the High Elves, and yet the High Elves remain as stoic and steadfast as ever...ready to engage those who dare defile Ulthuan, and answer the bugles of their allies as battle fills the air.

Onto other news...The Endless Trial for WH: Age of Reckoning has begun, and has pretty nifty restrictions to make sure freeloaders don't get everything...such as playing only Chaos/Empire, inability to choose server to play on etc. Of course, you still get to play for free for an unlimited amount of time.

I'm a big shot Commander of the High Elves

The Stoic Elven Hero
This is a Portrait of Weiting's Elven Hero that he had acquired and painted fully last year.

When Weiting dedicated himself to painting a figure, he can come up with the most brilliant colour scheme and painting effects. I guess all of us have come a long way in honing our paint brush and painting our figures.

Nonetheless, I still hope that we all can manage to finish everything that we have and paint it all into its full glory and continue on with painting other new stuff.

Well in this picture, we see that haughty elf in a defensive pose. Somehow or another though, the elf figure gives out its innate characteristic of being arrogant while it is posing.
I feel it looks as if He is a big shot in the scene. Then again, it could be how the camera capture the elf.

But its quite a definitive to assume that he is a leader of the elves of Weiting's Arrow Merchant Army.

On a sidenote, I will be finishing up my Men-at-arms soon. Furthermore, I will pass the blog back to Joshua to talk more about Weiting's High Elf Hero and stay tune to mroe awesome warhammer pictures.

Its been good hanging out and talking about Warhammer stuff. I hope to give more interesting stuff and increase interest in the people who read my stuff.

Cheers
